Wellesley Corridor Plan Moves Forward

September 30, 2026
STA has released a draft of the Wellesley Corridor Development Plan, outlining proposed improvements to Route 33 Wellesley as it advances toward becoming a High Performance Transit line.

Route 33 provides an important east-west connection between Spokane Falls Community College and Spokane Community College, serving nine Spokane neighborhoods along the way. Upgrading the route is a commitment included in STA’s Connect 2035 strategic plan.

The draft plan recommends maintaining the route’s current alignment while improving stops and passenger amenities throughout the corridor. Proposed improvements include shelters, benches, leaning rails, lighting, distinctive wayfinding markers, waste and recycling receptacles, and real-time passenger information. The level of investment would vary based on ridership, transit connections and each stop’s role within the corridor.

The plan also recommends consolidating selected stops and improving stop spacing to support more reliable service, shorter travel times and a more intuitive rider experience. Accessibility improvements would include ADA-compliant boarding areas, sidewalks, pedestrian connections and platforms where warranted. The plan also identifies opportunities for transit-oriented development near key activity centers.

The STA Board of Directors will hold a public hearing on the draft plan Thursday, October 15, 2026.
