With the certification of the primary election, STA Proposition 1 has passed with the majority of voters in the Public Transportation Benefit Area voting for the renewal of a 0.2% sales and use tax. 59,452 votes (or 51.52%) were cast in favor of the renewal with 55,940 (48.48%) against.
“On behalf of the STA Board of Directors, we thank the voters for their support for Spokane Transit and public transportation in the region,” said STA Board Chair and City of Medical Lake Council Member Lance Speirs.
Following the passage of STA Prop 1, STA will continue advancing the projects outlined in its 10-year strategic plan, Connect 2035, including the first pilots of STA Link, scheduled to start this fall in Latah Valley and North Spokane Valley.
STA CEO Karl Otterstrom commented, “We are sincerely grateful for the community’s commitment to maintain its investment in public transportation, a valuable community asset under any circumstances. I believe the approval of STA Prop 1 is a vote of confidence in the momentum and vitality of our growing region.”
